Senior Multiplayer Sample Games Engineer

About the Employer

Game developers repeatedly say that multiplayer game creation remains one of their hardest challenges; balancing ease-of-use with performance and flexibility remains unsolved. As a result, we’ve seen far too little innovation in multiplayer games over the last decade, while creativity in single-player games has flourished.

We are looking for an experienced Unity Multiplayer Engineer to help us create educational sample games and ensure the next generation of multiplayer developers are fully supported in their endeavors. You will develop with and teach about new multiplayer technologies, from scale testing tools to game netcode to infrastructure deployment tools. Join a rapidly growing team looking to empower the breadth of our community and become one of the first experts in this new Unity netcode stack.

Responsibilities

  • Design, implement, test and maintain multiplayer game samples, tutorials, docs and more.
  • Develop for a large set of multiplayer game genres, such as RPG, FPS, MMO, etc.
  • Define and advocate for quality for all netcode and sample content - including the implementation and supporting materials.
  • Collaborate closely with the Netcode and Tools teams to ensure we dogfood new features rapidly and provide feedback in a timely manner.

Requirements

  • Experience as a Unity multiplayer developer in a shipped game.
  • Strong architectural understanding of netcode - i.e. what kinds of multiplayer topologies and implementations are best suited for different game archetypes.
  • Strong technical communication and ability to distill complex technical concepts into step-by-step learnings for new users.
  • Strong collaboration capabilities in both written and verbal communication.

Bonus Points

  • Teaching, education, and/or technical writing experience a plus
  • Experience with infrastructure management and/or integration a plus
  • Experience as a multiplayer developer in a mid-to-high budget game a plus
