Job Purpose:
The outsource artist is a critical conduit between both our internal content creation teams and our external content partners. They work to harmonize the production of external content with the internal teams’ work and time lines. They help make both internal and external production work as one system that reliably delivers content to plan, scope and budget.
They are highly organized with great communication skills that enable them to keep information up to date and transparent to all parties keeping alignment and momentum high.
The role requires a solid knowledge of art and animation processes and workflows combined with a strong understanding of effective production methods. They demonstrate a clear ability to schedule and track creative workflows, to document effectively, and to feedback feed-back giving clear, understandable actions to our partners. They are effective and knowledgeable about working in art software and game engines as required.
They review work as it comes in and feedback to vendors to ensure work is on style, matches concept and target quality and matches technical specifications. They support creation of briefs, gathering material for briefing and writing briefs as well as creating the OS packs that contain example material.
As work is finalized they assist internal teams with integration and bug-fixing to ensure the assets achieve the standards set by the art leads.

Main Duties and Responsibilities

  • Effectively communicates with third parties, producers and internal production on status and progress of work. Facilitating the correct information flow between vendors and the team.
  • Applies processes to quality assure all art and animation assets produced by third-party vendors to be complaint with style and production guides.
  • Guarantees vendors are supplied with all materials needed for successful asset creation.
  • Maintains a fluid outsource production pipeline that consistently meets product delivery targets and team wellbeing. Suggests improvements to processes.
  • Coordinates and documents best practice outsourcing guidelines that drive results
  • Build and maintain a strong creative relationship between external and internal art teams
  • Actively mentors and guides those more junior to themselves to success
  • Briefing
  • Checking concept art, requesting additional breakdowns and amendments where necessary, feeding these back to the concept team.
  • Able to research such lore as is necessary to support the brief notes by talking to the team.
  • Creating Greybox objects in Maya if necessary
  • Maintaining filenaming and technical standards
  • Suggest efficient build solutions and breakdowns to best create assets within existing technical and artistic guidelines.
  • Proactively suggesting asset ideas, collaborating with devs/designers and concept artists.

  • Feedback
  • Off-shotgun queries and discussions are copied into shotgun where necessary to maintain clear decision threads.
  • Feedback reviews are checked with the team and Leads and additional feedback is sought as appropriate.
  • Support all members of the team in their feedback implementation and techniques to make feedback easier.
  • Timing and types of feedback are logged to highlight and possible issues and areas for improvement.
  • Integration
  • Incoming assets are tested against existing standards and integrated into the correct stream in a timely manner. The team notified at all stages
  • Incoming assets are provided to the team fit for purpose, as tested and bugs fixed, seeking help with bugs from colleagues as needed.
  • Pipeline
  • Actively suggesting improvements to tools and processes.


  • Experience in an outsourcing position on released titles
  • Strong understanding of game production processes and can problem solve, schedule, communicate and monitor complex tasks
  • Broad exposure to a variety of art disciplines (character, animation, environment etc.)
  • Hands on art creation process and workflow experience to a professional level
  • Comfortable with production tracking and scheduling software such as Jira
  • Understanding of agile principles and frameworks such as Scrum
  • Highly organized and process driven
  • Comfortable multitasking with an ability to prioritize business needs.
  • Highly effective communicator with excellent soft skills
