About the Employer

Expansive Worlds is a creative division of Avalanche Studios Group and a leading developer and publisher of outdoor games. Since 2009, Expansive Worlds has been devoted to delivering highly immersive outdoor gaming experiences for millions of players and best known for the long-standing and successful theHunter franchise.

We are now looking for a Lead Designer to join us to work on an ambitious unannounced project.

The Position
As a Lead Designer, you will work closely with the game director to fulfill the vision of the game, while collaborating with the other cross-discipline leads to deliver an experience that meets the quality expectations of an Avalanche product.

You will be responsible for managing a design team on a day to day basis, steering them in the right direction, whilst at the same time giving them the freedom to learn and improve. Alongside that you will help build the growing design team, and work directly with the craft leads to ensure the right training and support is in place.

In addition to managing, you’ll also be expected to produce and present documentation, as well as review others' work with constructive feedback. Furthermore you’ll need to be able to get hands on with the tools to aid with tuning, balancing and general support when required.

Required Qualifications

  • 5+ years of games industry experience, on multiple published PC & console games, ideally including at least one open-world title.
  • Able to scope effectively and make challenging decisions to balance the impact on the team and the game.
  • Strong leadership skills with experience of managing teams and mentoring juniors.
  • Exceptional communication skills, with the ability to utilise soft skills to motivate others, give feedback, and manage conflicts.
  • Fluent in English, both written and spoken.

Desired Qualifications

  • The ability to work closely with other departments, with an understanding of dependencies and overlapping systems.
  • Knowledge and understanding of open world game design, and how systemic systems function in sandbox environments.
  • Experience with a broad range of documentation and presentation tools such as Microsoft Office, G Suite, Miro, Confluence, etc.
  • Self-motivated in setting and reaching goals while able to produce results as part of a team.
  • The ability to communicate ideas and requirements clearly to stakeholders.
  • Passion for making and playing games.
