Lead Technical Animator

About the Employer


Arkane Studios Austin is currently seeking a highly experienced Lead Technical Animator to lead our technical animation team. We are looking for a candidate with extensive experience in authoring advanced character deformation systems and creating animator friendly rigs. This individual will have a proven track record of successfully working collaboratively, solving pipeline problems, and creating and improving cutting-edge tools and processes on art teams, and game production experience in a lead role.


  • Coordinate the technical animation department, prioritize features, and work with the Art Director, Technical Animation Producer and Lead Animator to achieve common goals across the departments

  • Review created content to ensure it meets the visual fidelity goals set for projects ·

  • Take requests, prioritize, and delegate work across the Technical Animation department while maintaining a consistent task list and priorities for the technical art team

  • Create best-practices documentation for content generation and tools

  • Collaborate with art and engineering staff on animation pipeline improvements · R&D complex game art elements

  • Assist in troubleshooting and organization with outsourced art partners as needed ·

  • Remain up to date on tool and tech developments to identify ways to improve quality and increase art production speed

  • Act as a role model and mentor technical animation team


  • 7+ years’ experience in video games in senior/lead technical animation role

  • Expert knowledge of Maya and MotionBuilder

  • Wide range of experience creating body and facial animation rigs for a large variety of character types

  • Extensive experience setting up cloth simulations

  • Experienced with setting up physics rigid body setups

  • Experience with Unreal Engine 4

  • Excellent communication and time management skills

  • Knowledge of Maya API and programming skills in Python and C++ preferred

  • Very strong problem-solving skills
