Gameplay Engineer - The Lord of the Rings

Amazon Game Studios is seeking a Gameplay Engineer to join our team in sunny Irvine, CA. This engineer will work closely with Combat Designers and other content creators to build compelling and innovative gameplay mechanics for our upcoming game based on The Lord of the Rings.
Working in our Combat team, you'll make the impossible possible by prototyping new ideas and building new systems and tools that unlock the creativity of your team. You will also face the challenge of live game feature development where delighting customers is a constant occupation.

What you’ll do:
· Collaborate closely and constantly with other Engineers, Designers, and content creators to create and own exciting gameplay systems and mechanics
· Balance rapid experimentation and exploration of new gameplay ideas with the hardening of code and systems as ideas are solidified
· Proactively contribute to optimizing and improving the codebase
· Support and communicate with members of the team to help in maintaining rapid and stable development


· Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Mathematics or a related field (or equivalent work experience)
· 3+ years working in professional C++ codebases for multi-disciplinary teams
· 1+ years of feature development for a “live” game or game service


· Strong skills in 3D math and linear algebra
· Credited as an engineer on two or more AAA game titles
· Experience with rapid design prototyping and design tool creation
· Comprehensive video game engineering skills including spatial reasoning, networking, tooling and optimization
· Expertise in notable area(s) of gameplay (Artificial Intelligence, Animation, Networking, Physics)
· Meets/exceeds Amazon’s leadership principles requirements for this role
